Player Policies

Cricket Player Pack

Cambridge High School Cricket recognises the significant contribution that sport can make to the physical, psychological, and social development of young people, and consequently we actively encourage our cricketers to participate in cricket to a level in keeping with their interests and abilities.  We aim to provide the necessary coaching and administrative support to cater for our crickters' needs from both within the school and the local community.  Our Colts and 1st XI team representatives are our most public ambassadors being the elite of our players, and therefore a great deal of importance is attached to the quality of this representation both on and off the field.  In this regard our top players are expected to maintain the highest standard of personal presentation and behaviour at all times.

Cambridge High School encourages all cricketers to adhere to a code of Fair Play, and we aim to promote attitudes and behaviour consistent with the belief that sport is an ethical pursuit, in which integrity, sportsmanship and honesty are still the most important elements.

Cambridge High School Cricket strives to:

     *     Provide an opportunity for all players to enjoy cricket

     *     Ensure a range of competitive and social cricketing opportunities

     *     Encourage players to reach their full cricketing potential

     *     Provide positive group experiences and leadership opportunities

     *     Support the academic welfare of the student

     *     Encourage a lifelong participation in cricket and sport in general

     *     Promote a sense of belonging to and pride in representing Cambridge High School and the community in general

     *     To provide equitable opportunities in cricket for both boys and girls, and students with disabilities

As representatives of Cambridge High School Cricket players are expected to:

     *     Co-operate with team mates, all coaches, officials, and opponents and treat them with respect

     *     Strive for excellence, have fun and develop their cricketing skills while accepting their limitations, and those of their

            fellow players

     *     Know the rules of the game and play by them at all times

     *     Accept the decisions of officials without comment or complaint

     *     Do not use coarse language, whether directed at someone else or not

     *     Control their temper

Player Policies

All players are expected to play cricket for the school, in the first instance, and not for a club, without prior permission from the TIC for Cricket and the Sports Co-ordinator for Cambridge High School, unless that player has been released as required due to regional or national representative selection.

To play for Cambridge High School, the player must enrol as a student, including Transition students.  As soon as the player leaves Cambridge High School, they become ineligible to represent the school, unless given express clearance from the governing cricket organisation running the competition the player is wanting to play in.

If a student's behaviour, attitude or progress at school is not satisfactory they will risk being removed from any involvement in cricket till such time as their performance at school is of a required and acceptable standard.  Regular updates of academic progress will be made in consultation with classroom teachers, and/or Year Deans, to determine eligibility to play cricket once more.

While representing the school, all normal school rules apply.  This means uniform and behaviour standards are to be met.

Coaches and Managers may recommend disciplinary action to school administration.  Disciplinary actions involved with cricket may involve any, or all, of the following;  the cricket committee (if established), the TIC for Cricket, the Sport Co-ordinator for Cambridge High School, HOD of PE, and school administrators including Board of Trustees.

Students will be required to meet all financial obligations to cricket by the appropriate date.  Special cases may be referred to the TIC.  Players are responsible for any sporting gear issued to them and will be invoiced for any items that are lost or damaged through misuse.

When a student registers for cricket, that commitment is for the entire year, both Term 1 and Term 4 and is expected to be fulfilled.  Students are encouraged to participate in multiple sports but must ensure that they meet their commitment to each current seasons sport ahead of that of another season or code.  Students who withdraw from cricket after the season starts, and they have played, cannot expect a refund of fees paid unless the situation warrants, and the student applies in writing to the TIC and Sports Co-ordinator.

Parents are invited to volunteer in ways that suit them.  One opportunity is to sit on the Cambridge High School Cricket Committee.  Others could include assisting with coaching, team management, umpiring and scoring.  Committee meetings will be held during the season as required.  Please help in any way you can.  If you are able to help, please contact the TIC for Cricket at 827 5415.

Players must abide by the Cambridge High School Sport Policy if they wish to play for the school (see below).

Consider the following before making your decision:

If you are selected for the Colts or 1st XI Teams you are expcted to be fully committed to attending practices and matches and to always inform your coach/manager or the TIC of any absences or conflicting commitments.  You need to be available for Sports Exchanges and also any tournament opportunities.  If you have commitments to work or to other sports please think carefully about balancing your various responsibilties, remembering that studies are your first priority.  Cricket players will be expected to support cricket when necessary in whatever way possible during the cricket season ahead of any other sport code where conflicts exist.
